Picking the Best Shirts for Tall Guys
If you take a look at the best-dressed men of the last few years, what do they all have in common? They all know how to rock a fantastic dress shirt. Sure, there’s more to style than that, but it’s a really good place to start.
The dress shirt is the staple of any guy’s wardrobe, regardless of how often they get worn. Even if you spend 364 days of the year in t-shirts and jeans, everyone needs to have a fantastic shirt for more formal occasions.
However, if you’re a taller guy, finding the right tall dress shirts or even just tall men’s shirts in general can be difficult. Today, we’ll explore how you can pick the right shirts for your wardrobe, and what measurements you should be paying attention to, especially if you’re a taller dude.
Breaking Down the Key Measurements of Tall Dress ShirtsWhen it comes to dress shirts, most of the time retailers sell shirts in standard sizes, ranging from XS to XL and beyond. For tall guys, these standard options often don’t work. The best shirts for tall guys are made with their measurements in mind, instead of in a standard size.
However, if you can’t afford to get every shirt custom-made, you can still find ones that fit. You just have to pay attention to these measurements.
Chest
The chest measurement is taken at the largest part of your chest, which is typically just underneath the armpits. Make sure to take a few breaths if you’re measuring yourself with a tape measure, to ensure that you can still breathe comfortably.
Sleeve Length
Sleeve length is the measurement from the center back of your neck to your wrist, where your hand connects to your arm. Many people make the mistake of measuring only from their shoulder to their wrist – this is not correct! Make this mistake, and you’ll end up with a ¾ length shirt.
Back Length
This measurement isn’t as common, but it’s important when you’re trying to find the best shirts made for tall guys. This measurement is taken from the base of the neck to the point where you’d like the shirt to end. Most standard dress shirts end just below the buttocks. Standard back lengths range from 30-34”, but if you’re very tall, look for a retailer that stocks 35” and above.
Our Favorite Tall Shirts for Men
Shirt styles change every year, but this year, we’re seeing a lot more cozy fabrics like flannel, as people get more comfortable with the work-from-home lifestyle. These casual shirts are great for wearing around the house, either open over a t-shirt or just on their own.
To help you pick the best types of shirts for tall men, here are some of our favorites.
The Flannel
Like we said above, flannel is an absolute must-have for this winter. Our favorite flannel shirts come in heavy 100% cotton that’s brushed on both sizes for a comfortable nap that feels amazing next to the skin.

The Oxford shirt comes in a variety of muted shades of grey, blue, pink, and green. Since it’s made from mid-weight cotton, it’s a great choice for a casual shirt you can wear all year round.
The Western
One of our newest styles is the Western denim shirt, made with mid-weight cotton denim that’s beautifully washed until it looks perfectly worn in. With the classic double chest pocket, this shirt looks amazing paired with jeans.
